JERSEY CITY – One person was injured and five cars were damaged in a hit-and-run crash on Route 440 late Sunday night, authorities said.
Police arrested 27-year-old Justin Curry, of Elizabeth, about a mile up the road and charged him with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.
At about 11 p.m., Curry was driving near Route 440 and Communipaw Avenue when he struck a pedestrian, a 38-year-old man. The Union County man hit five other cars and continued to drive north without stopping, according to a police report.

The victim suffered a head injury and was brought to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available. The drivers and passengers in the other cars refused medical attention, police said.
During the crash, the bumper and license plate of Curry’s gray Mazda was torn off and was found at the scene. Police pulled Curry’s car over near Route 1&9 and Broadway. He was arrested and charged with DWI, knowingly leaving the scene of a crash, endangering an injured victim, assault by auto, and was issued motor vehicle summonses.
