State launches NJ BASE program at 3 Second Street to attract international businesses.
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has opened a free office space in Jersey City to attract foreign companies looking to establish U.S. operations. Located at 3 Second Street, the NJ BASE program provides initial workspace and support for up to 20 companies.
This initiative aims to boost the local economy by making Jersey City a global business hub, offering foreign entrepreneurs a low-risk entry point. With easy access to New York City and public transit, the program could generate jobs and investment for the community.
The NJ BASE space, totaling over 7,200 square feet, can host 15 to 20 companies with one to three employees each, according to the NJEDA.
The program has $3 million in funding allocated over three years, approved in June 2025, with a possible two-year extension.
‘It’s all about jobs and investment. Some of them could be enormous success stories,’ said Andrew Gross, NJEDA director of international innovation and partnerships.
‘NJ BASE will provide international entrepreneurs with the resources, partnerships, and support they need to scale their companies,’ said NJEDA CEO Evan Weiss in a statement.
Impact: The free office space removes barriers for foreign firms, potentially creating new jobs and boosting Hudson County’s profile as a business destination.
What Happens Next: The NJEDA plans to partner with global innovation company SOSA and nonprofit Choose New Jersey to assist companies in transitioning to permanent locations in New Jersey.
The first companies are expected to begin using the space in the coming weeks, with officials monitoring the program’s impact on local economic growth.
