Annual vehicle-free street festival kicks off NFL season with local dining and shopping.

First Street Sundays, the annual vehicle-free street festival in Hoboken, will return on Sunday, September 13th, from approximately 12PM to 7PM. The event closes First Street to traffic to encourage walking, support local businesses, and celebrate the start of the NFL season.

Now in its seventh year, the event has become a community tradition that transforms the street into a pedestrian-friendly space for dining, shopping, and outdoor sports viewing. Organizers say it also aims to reduce traffic-related fatalities and boost foot traffic for local restaurants.

First Street Sundays began in September 2019, originally created by the Hoboken Business Alliance and the City of Hoboken. It is now a private event organized by local businesses under a city permit.

The event will take place on September 13th, 27th, October 4th, 11th, and 25th. Street setup begins around 10AM, and the road reopens at 8PM after cleanup.

‘It’s a great way for the community to come together, support our local shops, and enjoy the street without cars,’ said a spokesperson for the event organizers.

Impact: Residents can expect to stroll through a traffic-free First Street, dine at outdoor tables, and watch NFL, baseball, and soccer games at participating bars and restaurants that set up televisions in the street.

What Happens Next: No specific list of participating businesses has been released yet. The Hoboken Business Alliance and city officials are expected to announce more details closer to each event date.

DailyHudson will keep readers informed as participating businesses and additional event details are announced.
