Mikayla Holmgren is the first pageant participant in a Miss USA State competition that has Down Syndrome.She has previously participated in pageants for boys and girls with disability.When she got an invitation in the mail to compete for Miss Minnesota State pageant,she begged for her mother to let her participate.She did not bring home the crown but she did receive the Spirit of Miss USA award and the Director’s award.It seems that she has inspired others as well.Mothers with kids with Down Syndrome went to watch Ms Holmgren compete.Lana Beaton who brought her two year old daughter told Newsweek,“I was full of so much hope and joy and excitement for her and our future.”Beauty is more than looks , it also includes talent and charisma.She won the judges with her smile and her dancing style.
