Four giant interactive instruments now at ResilienCity Park through Sept. 12.
Four giant musical cranks, shaped like instruments and playing Broadway showtunes, have been installed at ResilienCity Park in Hoboken. The interactive art installation, called “The Harmonies,” opened Aug. 1 and will remain until Sept. 12.
The project is part of the Hoboken Business Alliance’s Public Arts Initiative, which aims to make public spaces more inviting and support local artists. It adds to a growing collection of interactive art in the city, including the “Electric Dandelions” and “Urban Crystals Garden.”
Located near the water park area, the four cranks can be operated by hand by anyone from toddlers to adults, playing songs from musicals like The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Rent, and Fiddler on the Roof.
The installation is a collaboration between the Hoboken Business Alliance and LeMonde Studio, an interactive art company.
A gaggle of kids stood in lines eagerly just to crank for a few seconds, said Ayaan, a member of The Hoboken Girl team who visited the park.
Impact: Residents and visitors can enjoy a hands-on musical experience in a public space, encouraging community engagement and family-friendly activity in uptown Hoboken.
What Happens Next: The installation is scheduled to remain at the park until September 12, giving locals several weeks to visit before it is removed.
Music lovers of all ages can catch The Harmonies before they leave next month.
