Social media influencer Jimmy Darts surprises struggling family with life-changing gifts.

Victoria Ramirez was at a basketball court in Jersey City last week when a stranger approached her, holding a necklace. He asked if it belonged to her or someone in her family.

It didn’t. But that moment changed everything.

The stranger was Jimmy Darts, a social media influencer with nearly 17 million followers on Instagram and TikTok. He’s known for surprising kind strangers with cash and gifts. On June 27th, he posted a video of his encounter with Ramirez, and what unfolded over the next few days has left the Jersey City family stunned.

“I’ve been really depressed because I’ve just been feeling hopeless,” Ramirez told Darts in the video, tears starting to form. She had been falling behind on rent, struggling to keep her family afloat after losing her job. Her daughter has ongoing health challenges. Her son has been bullied at school.

Darts first handed her $1,000 cash for her honesty. Then a $1,000 DoorDash gift card. Then came the surprise that even she couldn’t believe: tickets for her and her two children to the FIFA World Cup match at MetLife Stadium that very night. Panama vs. England.

They made it. A second video shows the family in the stands, grinning ear to ear.

More Than Just a Good Deed

But Darts wasn’t done. He set up a GoFundMe page for Ramirez, writing, “Victoria is doing everything she can to provide for her son and daughter, but she’s fallen behind on rent and bills after losing her job and is deeply struggling to keep her family afloat. The fear of being on the streets weighs on her every single day.”

As of Monday evening, $21,881 has been raised from 864 donors. Darts set a goal of $50,000.

The money, he said, is meant to stop the eviction Ramirez feared and give the family room to breathe.

A snapshot of a wider struggle

For many Hudson County families, this story hits close to home. The cost of rent in Jersey City has climbed steadily, with one-bedroom apartments averaging over $2,200 a month. Losing a job can tip a family into a spiral of late fees, stress, and uncertainty — fast.

“I’ve been really depressed because I’ve just been feeling hopeless,” Ramirez said. That feeling is familiar to many residents who juggle multiple gigs, scrape by paycheck to paycheck, and worry about what happens if they slip.

Ramirez’s story also reflects how social media can create moments of real community support. Darts’ followers donated thousands within hours, and his videos racked up millions of views — a reminder that for all the noise online, there’s still room for kindness that lands.

“Do your thing, internet ❤️,” Darts wrote.

What’s next for the family

Ramirez and her children are staying in their home for now. The GoFundMe page remains open, with donations still coming in. If the campaign reaches its $50,000 goal — and it’s climbing every day — the family could pay off debt, cover medical costs, and build a small cushion.

For many here in Hudson County, this story is a reminder that random acts of generosity still happen, sometimes when you least expect them. And that a little grace can change everything.
