Bembe and Steaks Shakes + Harmony will replace former Better Days space.

Two new food concepts, Bembe and Steaks Shakes + Harmony, are set to open at 143 Newark Avenue, the former location of Better Days, according to the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District.

The openings will bring a casual steak and raw bar, as well as a cheesesteak and milkshake spot, to the busy Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza, offering new dining options for downtown residents and visitors.

Bembe is expected to be a casual steak and raw bar, according to HDSID.

Steaks Shakes + Harmony, a concept from Chef D. Harmon, focuses on cheesesteaks and milkshakes and already operates at 126 Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City.

‘Steaks Shakes + Harmony comes from Chef D. Harmon and is centered around real deal cheesesteaks and milkshakes,’ HDSID said.

Impact: The new spots will give locals and visitors more food choices along the pedestrian plaza, a popular area for dining and nightlife.

What Happens Next: An official opening date for Bembe and the new Steaks Shakes + Harmony location has not been announced. Updates are expected as more information becomes available.

The former Better Days space continues to evolve, bringing fresh concepts to downtown Jersey City.
