NJ Transit restricts access on game days at MetLife Stadium.

Three World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium this week will cause significant traffic and transit disruptions for Jersey City commuters, NJ Transit announced.

With an estimated 1.2 million visitors expected in New Jersey for the event, local roads and transit systems will face heavy congestion, particularly near the East Rutherford area.

The matches are scheduled for Monday, June 22nd (Norway vs. Senegal), Thursday, June 25th (Ecuador vs. Germany), and Saturday, June 27th (Panama vs. England).

On game days, NJ Transit will limit train access from Penn Station New York and Secaucus Junction to ticket holders between 3:20 PM and 7:01 PM.

Riders are encouraged to avoid nonessential travel if they use NJ Transit services, but if commuting is necessary, plan trips to avoid peak travel hours,’ NJ Transit officials said.

Impact: Commuters from New Jersey will be directed to the Hoboken PATH Station, while those from New York will use the 33rd Street PATH Station to reach Hoboken or Newark Penn Station.

What Happens Next: Similar restrictions are expected for the Thursday and Saturday matches, and DailyHudson will update this story as more information becomes available from NJ Transit.

Jersey City travelers should expect delays and plan alternative routes during match days.
