The days are getting hotter in Hudson County, which means people will need a chance to cool down.

Jersey City is offering three cooling sites throughout the community today. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to high 90s, with the heat index expected to make temperatures feel closer to 100 degrees.

The Mary McLeod Bethune Community Center at 140 Martin Luther King Dr. is one of the locations and is open until 6 p.m. The other two centers are at The Joseph Connors Senior Center at 28 Paterson St. and The Maureen Collier Senior Center at 335 Bergen Ave. Both locations are also open until 6 p.m.

City parks and pools are open to residents as well. A full schedule of pool and sprinkler locations can be found at jerseycitynj.gov.

The Jersey City Free Public Libraries are also open to the public and are a cool place for people during the week. A list of hours and activities at the different locations can be found on their website at jclibrary.org.

North Bergen also has three designated cooling centers for this week. The uptown library at 8411 Bergenline Ave., the downtown library at 2123 Kennedy Blvd. and the recreation center at 6300 Meadowview Ave. are the cooling center locations.

The recreation center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. while the libraries are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. except for Fridays when they close at 5 p.m. These locations will be available until Friday.
