The grocery chain has listed a store at 55 Hudson Street, marking its first location in Jersey City.
Trader Joe’s has officially confirmed it will open a store in downtown Jersey City at 55 Hudson Street. The chain’s website now lists the location, though an exact opening date has not been announced.
This will be Jersey City’s first Trader Joe’s and the second in Hudson County, joining the Hoboken store. The addition brings a new grocery option to a bustling downtown area that already includes Whole Foods, ShopRite, and BJ’s Wholesale Club.
The store will be part of the 50 + 55 Hudson Street development by Tishman Speyer. The 55 Hudson Street tower includes 1,017 residential units and over 60,000 square feet of retail space.
The building at 55 Hudson Street is expected to be completed in early 2027.
“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country, including many in New Jersey, as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year,” said Nakia Rhode, Public Relations Manager at Trader Joe’s, in a 2025 statement when rumors first surfaced.
Impact: For residents in the growing downtown area, the confirmed Trader Joe’s means more convenient access to groceries and potentially shorter trips to other stores.
