18-month Vision Zero project to bring curb, sidewalk, and traffic signal upgrades along key corridor.
Hudson County will begin long-term Vision Zero construction on John F. Kennedy Boulevard next Monday, a project expected to last about 18 months. The work aims to improve safety and accessibility along a corridor used by residents, businesses, and commuters countywide.
The initiative is part of the county’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. By upgrading infrastructure, the county hopes to make daily travel safer and more pleasant for all users, addressing long-standing pedestrian and roadway concerns.
Garfield-based Zuccaro Inc. will lead the construction, which includes installation and improvement of curbs, sidewalks, stamped concrete walkways, ADA-compliant ramps, new traffic signals, and street trees.
The project also includes milling and paving along the roadway, and work will be done in phases to minimize disruptions.
‘These improvements will help make it safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone who uses it,’ said County Executive Craig Guy, thanking residents and partners for their patience.
Impact: Residents and motorists should expect temporary lane closures and detours, and are advised to follow signage and allow extra travel time in active zones.
What Happens Next: County officials will provide updates on construction phases, traffic impacts, and project milestones as work progresses over the coming months.
The county encourages residents to stay informed through official channels as the long-term improvements take shape along JFK Boulevard.
