Officials break ground on $6.3M Hudson County Community Market at 685 Broadway.
Construction has begun on a new food pantry at 685 Broadway in Bayonne. County and city officials marked the groundbreaking of the Hudson County Community Market, a $6.3 million project aimed at expanding food access.
The facility, funded by federal and county American Rescue Plan dollars, is designed to offer a more dignified, choice-based pantry experience. It addresses food insecurity in Hudson County, which has been a growing concern for local families.
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and Bayonne Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the two-story facility.
The project is funded with $5 million from the State American Rescue Plan and $1.3 million from Hudson County ARP funds, and will be built using union labor.
“This project is the result of what can happen when every level of government works together to address critical needs in our communities,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy.
Impact: Once open, the pantry will operate by appointment with evening and weekend hours, making it easier for working residents to access nutritious food.
What Happens Next: The second floor will eventually house offices for social services and other supportive resources. An opening date has not yet been announced.
The market’s volunteers will help run the facility, which promises to be a local resource for dignified food assistance.
